From out of nowhere Steve Senes barges into the music scene with a guitar-oriented tour de force. This is a case where most conventional epithets such as 'Shred Guitar' risk devaluating the album - one should in fact think of "De-Evolution of Theory" as a tasteful blend of a wide range of sounds and genres (amongst them Latin, Jazz, Metal and Classical) into a truly enthralling expression of music.

Something about the origins of this album.....in 2009 Steve won the annual Guitar Superstar event (a sort of 'X-Factor' for guitarists) at a Californian guitar convention. That competition's judges included Elliot Easton (The Cars), Jennifer Batten (guitarist for Michael Jackson and Jeff Beck), Steve Lukather (Toto), Earl Slick (David Bowie), and Greg Hampton (producer of Alice Cooper, Ronnie Wood, Lita Ford). And they all showered him with praise. That triumph enabled Steve to record and release this album, whose title is a dig at the music's unconventionality.

Sure enough, not only can Steve play incredibly well, while not neglecting even the fine nuances of his solos, but his compositions sound fresh, original and exciting. That is something extremely rare with instrumental guitar albums. The chord progressions do not fail to impress either - for instance the funkiness of 'Cop Show' is extremely infectious and the timings of all the track's instruments are razor sharp despite its complexity. Steve Senes even manages to prove his prowess as a bass guitar player. In fact "De-Evolution of Theory" was completely written, performed, produced, engineered and mixed by Steve himself.

A gem of an instrumental album!
