Interview with Pete from Illnath, June 1st 2007

First of all... congratulations with your new album ”Second Skin of Harlequin”. Are you satisfied with it?
Pete: Yeah... The songs are great we think, but the sound could have been much better...

Who had the idea for the name ILLNATH? And what's behind it?
Pete: Our old bass player came up with the name Illnath, It was origanally a name for one of his monsters in his role playing game.... Since Illnath are similary to ildnat wich means "fire night", it sounded great for us...

How would you describe ILLNATH’s music, and the new album ”Second Skin of Harlequin” to any of our readers who may not have heard of ILLNATH before?
Pete: Illnath is a very melodic Power/Black Metal band.... Illnath plays with no rules... Maybe you can say that it's a twist of Children of Bodom and Gamma Ray with a twist of Cradle of Filth...

What idea is behind the Harlequin theme and the cover?
Pete: All the ideas for lyrics and themes are made by Narrenschiff.... Since I (Pete) don't concentrate so much about that part I can't tell you... The cover is made by Wilhelm Steiner (Austria)...

My favourite track on ”Second Skin of Harlequin” could very well be “Clockwork of Time”. Are there any songs that are special for you?
Pete: My favorites on the album are; "And There Was Light", "Pieta", "Virgin Soil". Actually I like all the songs but these 3 songs are special to me...

Will you follow the same path on your next album or will you change the sound?
Pete: The next album will be very different... We made the songs in the rehearsels and Reno Killerich recorded the drums later with a lot of changes... I think the next album is more original and more deep....

What are your influences and which CDs are in your player at the moment?
Pete: I'm very inspired from the 80's Metal style... Right now I'm listening to Dimmu Borgir's latest album... My Chemical Romance is a favorite too... :-)

What tasks presently lie ahead for ILLNATH?
Pete: We have a upcoming tour later this year, and then we hope to release our third album at Christmas time... :-)

Let’s speculate – you have been granted a free slot on a tour of your own choice – who would be your ideal touring partners?
Pete: No particular bands...We just want to play live and tour the world...

What do you think about the Danish Metal scene of today in general?
Pete: I think it's amazing... It seems like the Danes really have become important when it comes to metal...

Please name the 5 most important Metal-albums of all times!
Pete: I can't because there are so many... But maybe...

Metallica - The Black Album
Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys
Death - Human
Dimmu Borgir, (first album with Nick on drums)
Cradle of filth - V Empire

Well, that’s it! Thanks a lot for the interview. Anything you’d like to add to our head banging readers?
Pete:
Hope to see some of you on our upcoming tour...!!!
Stay heavy...

Pete
