Interview with Lars Johansson, Creozoth (October 27, 2005)

Tell us a few things about the band; How did you meet? And when?
Lars Johansson
-
Well, me and Janne has always been playing in our own different projects in the gaps of Candlemass different breaks. I heard about Torbjörn trough a cousin of his 7years ago or so, and Michael a few years later. So we were simply messing around with these songs I had for a while, and then we decided
to make a record out of it.

Is Creozoth a real band, or a side project?
Lars Johansson - Oh yes it is real band.

Tell us about the recording of your debut album; Where did you record it? Who was the producer? Are you satisfied with the final result?
Lars Johansson
-
We recorded it in one studio and mixed it in another one. Well, I produced it but, without Mr.: Bauman at the mixing desk. It would not have happened... I think it sound well in my ears...

To what subjects do the lyrics of Creozoth refer to, and who writes them? Who writes to music?
Lars Johansson
-
I write 80% of the lyrics or so, and 99,9% of the music...
And when I put lyrics to a song, I just have to fit it right and subject and targets... I don't know... Things and stuff that bothers me on the planet, you know.

How did you secure the deal with Escapi Music? Is it a worldwide deal?
Lars Johansson
-
I believe it’s worldwide. I have been working with these people, with Candlemass DVD’s and so.

Please tell our readers what kind of music Creozoth plays, and what are your influences?
Lars Johansson
-
I would call it heavy metal, its both fast n´slow, works fine at all volumes… some times mean and raw, yet not losing melody. My influences are a big bunch of good and respected guitarists, Hendrix, Beck, Blackmore, Roth, Marino, Holdsworth, and at least 20 more.

Did you ever play live? And what can we expect from a Creozoth live show?
Lars Johansson
-
We have not been doing any gigs yet, but that’s the plan. Expect us to do what you hear on the record, 20 times louder.

Are there any plans for a Creozoth tour?
Lars Johansson
-
Not at this moment.

I know that your debut album has just been released, but how are the reactions so far?
Lars Johansson
-
I have been trying to catch up a little on the web, and so far it seems work out well I think...

Please tell us about the cover artwork, and who made it?
Lars Johansson
-
I had an idea of burning lava or something. Then I had a chat with a guy at the label, he worked with it, and after a couple of experiments it turned out really nice...

Can we expect a vinyl release?
Lars Johansson
-
I don’t think so.

What do you think of the metal scene of today?
Lars Johansson
-
Some of it is really good, but I am a little lazy with catching up new stuff sometimes.

Please give me a list of your 5 favorite albums of all time...
Lars Johansson

  • Deep Purple - Made in Japan
  • Mountain - Twin Peaks
