The
brainchild behind ZENO is Zeno Roth born in 1956. He started to play
guitar on a self-taught basis. He also took violin lessons in addition
to the guitar. He was interested in Blues like CREAM, JOHHNY WINTER,
etc., but also in bands like YES, LED ZEPPELIN or JIMI HENDRIX. In
1974 he formed the band BLACK ANGEL. From 1979 until 1983 ZENO wrote a
lot of songs and lyrics for his own group with changing names and
people. In this period some of the later ZENO songs were written. In
1984 he formed the band ZENO with ULE RITGEN (FAIR WARNING).
ZENO
released 3 albums called "ZENO", "Zenology“ and
"Listen To The Light“. All 3 albums have been re-released. This
Promo-CD I'm sitting here with is called "Zenology II", and
it's a new compilation of previously unreleased ZENO songs. All of
these tracks were recorded between 1983 and 1989.
ZENO is doing quite a good job here on "Zenology II". Very good Melodic Hard Rock songs dominate this release. This album is full of very memorable songs from start to finish and I must admit that it's a pleasant surprise. Just take a listen to songs like "Call Of The Heart", "Tonight" and "Hard Beat" - they all drives forward and excels with great choruses. The best track here, in my opinion, is "Good Game Bad Game" - very rocking and with a great and very memorable chorus, that sticks in your brain forever. Well I could go on, but what's the point? This is pure Melodic Hard Rock ... and if you're into that, go get this album now! Recommended tracks: "Call Of The Heart", "Tonight", "Hard Beat", "Good Game Bad Game" & "Victoria" |
