"Jesus
titfucking Christ" ("Sin City" quote) - this is the best Opeth album EVER! At least in my
humble opinion! I am almost lost for words - the quartet with
mastermind Mikael Akerfeldt has somehow managed to top the brilliant
double album "Deliverance" / "Damnation" - I know
they were released separately, but they belong together. This
album combines everything I love about Opeth, from the darkest pits of
Hell comes the fierce and malicious death growls, dark and twisted
music. And from the sunny side of life comes happy, almost cheerful
melody lines and vocal lines, and how they manage to combine 2 so big
contrasts into beautiful and aggressive songs is beyond me! But I love
it! The
music has very strong roots in both progressive rock and death metal,
and with the addition of new keyboard player Per Wiberg they've added
another more psychedelic dimension to their sound. And speaking of
sound - this album has one the best metal productions ever - clean,
smooth and crystal clear. This is how a metal album should sound! And
just to add to the excellent overall package the artwork - done by
Travis Smith - suits the music perfectly. So the band and their new
record label Roadrunner has done everything in their power to make
this album one of this years highlights, now it's time for the metal
fans to judge how well they have done their job! I am convinced, and hope
this album will catapult them to the metal Olymp! I
can't stop praising this excellent album, and if you don't have a
problem with the combination of death metal and progressive rock, then
there's simply no other option than to get this album as soon as
possible. Join up and support this brilliant, aggressive and intense
metal band now... Recommended
