The Danish metal scene is constantly on the move these years, it would seem. We're a tiny country, indeed, but the conditions for wannabe musicians are good no matter how much we complain about high taxes and whatnot in this wellfare state above them all. A lot of bands sound alike, yeah, sure, but there are also bands out there who make an effort to sound nothing like the other Danish bands out there.

Heidra from Copenhagen is a good example of a band who are aiming at creating their own niche on the Danish scene. Their closest rivals are probably Svartsot or Vanir, yet the folk element is not as predominant in Heidra's music. There is a greater focus on melodic black metal and less so on folk, and it works like a charm.

The 'Sworn to Vengeance' EP is a fine baiter and certainly shows a band with potential. Heidra presents us with three excellent, diverse songs, and I'm hoping that there's more to audio output on the way from the Copenhagen six-piece in a not-too-distant future. Effort approved!
