Pestifer = Pestilence? No, not quite, but there are definitely parallels between the two bands.

This Belgian outfit plays death metal at a technically high level, and, no, it's not straight forward, old school metal in the US way. It took me more than one spin of the silver disc to get into it, and I'd say it's worth the effort. Many-facetted music with inspiration in jazz and rock music, time changes en masse, a bass player who wants to be heard.

This is a very strong debut album, there shall be no doubt that. It's a promising piece of work that should please most fans of Pestilence, latter-day Death and Atheist. I'm already looking forward to hear what this lot will come up with on their second album!

Check it out!
