WATERLAND hails from Portugal and for the past 8 days or so I have been listening to their self-produced debut album simply titled ‘Waterland’.

We get 15 songs of pure melodic power metal with an okay production. 15 songs that sound and style wise are very close to bands such as; DARK MOOR, FREEDOM CALL and DREAMTALE.

We all know how hard it is for bands to find their own way in the sub-genre of Power Metal and there are no surprises on this album. You get the feeling that you’ve a heard it all before but that doesn’t mean that the songs are bad because they are certainly not. The catchy choruses are all over this release and the music is filled with nice melody lines and with a bigger and more bombastic production this release would have scored even higher.

Songs like; Paradise”, “Shinning World”, “The sign of Mankind”, and “The Kingdom” are my favourite songs. I find myself humming the choruses in the middle of the streets so the song writing capabilities promise much more to come in the future but do have in mind that WATERLAND is for melodic power metal fans only.

A solid album without surprises.
