Having released a very promising EP called 'The Tower' last year, German progressive metal band Tomorrow's Eve comes with their 4th album. Two of the songs were on the 'The Tower' EP, the other 9, new songs, are of a quality that we are used to from this band.
A variable composition with lots of breaks, changing melody lines and many complex instrumental parts is what we get served. Martin LeMar's vocals are as always powerful and expressive. Some parts in the songs are a little dramatic in a kind of Savatage style, piano in combination with vocals. The whole album has a lyrical concept that fits well with the bands German heritage. It strikes up a feeling of coldness and the bare industrial Ruhr-district. With the talking parts in and between the songs, the album has a kind of Dream Theater feel over it. Especially in the more than 19 minute long song 'Muse', it sticks out by a mile.
Is Tomorrow's Eve a Dream Theater clone then? No, they put in enough other original musical influences and more melody to stand out from the crowd. They are more than capable of becoming a new forerunner for the progressive metal genre, and their unique approach to the lyrical concept and their way in incorporating their German heritage in the music makes them an interesting band for genre fanatics. Undoubtedly, if you like Dream Theater, you also can be pleased with Tomorrow's Eve. For Prog-metal fans it's a long time waiting until October 10th.
