At
home I have the CD 'Valdr Galga' from 1999. The band played metal
with extreme vocals and a lot of folky influences. They were a kind
of pioneers for bands like
Korpiklaani and Finntrol.
After the short split in 2004 they joined hands again and signed
with Regain Records. The path they took with their last album 'Farsotstider'
is again followed and takes the band more and more away from their
early more folky style.
The
opening track reminds me of
Bathory back in the
'Hammerheart' times. In the songs there are a lot of early black and
death influences. Especially the guitar sound has that kind of dry
crunchy sound. Most of the songs are rather slow and midtempo, in
"Isolation" they introduce nice orchestral parts in their music, and
this gives the song a nice bombastic vibe. These orchestral parts
are withheld in other songs.
On
this album the band combines influences of
Bathory,
My Dying Bride,
Anathema,
and Darkthrone with
orchestral parts and melts it together in rather long tracks. The
keen thing of it is; they still sound like Thyrfing.
