When Steelheart came riding in on one of the last big waves
in the hair metal movement, two things struck out: these guys could
actually play and they had one hell of a vocalist! Their
self-entitled debut album became an overnight sensation, selling
more than a million copies, and the single "I'll Never Let You Go"
peaked at #14 on the charts. Their second album 'Tangled in Reigns" from 1992
couldn't quiet keep up with their first and when disaster struck the
band sadly broke up.
Vocalist Miljenko
Matijevic
did return in 1996 with his solo-album 'Wait' released under the Steelheart banner, an album that did well in Asia but went
almost unnoticed in
the rest of the world. And he was also a major part of the
soundtrack for the blockbuster movie 'Rock Star'; and no it is not Mark Wahlberg hitting those impressive high notes with the band Steel
Dragon.
'Still Hard' is a historical documentary from the time when
Steelheart was a part of the game. Two classic and historic
concerts, as well as some pretty funny video clips; classic early 90's
MTV videos, with the exception of "Wait", which has an almost
singer/songwriter feel to it, as well some acoustic shows and TV
appearances and a lot of other stuff from the years 1990 and 1991,
and yes there is footage of the horrible accident in Denver that
meant the break-up of the original line-up.
Sure the quality, of the footage, nothing wrong with the material,
leaves a lot to be desired for, but this is for the fans - like me -
who wants to experiences the magic they created back in the days.
They have a new album coming out shortly, but until it is out, do
check this one out - if you are into the band you'll enjoy
it immensely! So let Sheila take you all back to Shangrila, and
remember everybody loves Eileen.
Classic stuff!
