Sister Sin hails from a melodic death metal-generator situated in
Sweden, also known as Gothenburg. Surprisingly they actually don’t play melo-death.
The band (or perhaps their label) claims to play “Street Metal”. “And what in
the world is that?” you might think. Actually I have no idea at all, first of
all, because I can’t find a place where they support the weird statement, second
of all: To me it seems like they play old-school sleaze metal like Accept or old
Mötley Crüe did it… Which is good by the way, so don’t ask me what the “street
thing” is all about, perhaps a desperate attempt of being original or perhaps a
bad joke… Enough about that, on to the music.
Sister Sin is fronted by a strong female vocalist, who doesn’t
turn all operatic on us (sick of all those Nightwish-wannabes), instead she has
a very aggressive approach which suits the music well, overall the album has a
certain “bad-ass-quality” to it, which is very cliché (take a look at the track
list). In this case I really don’t mind lack of original ideas, because the band
plays tight and have written some good old-school metal tunes, like: “On
Parole” and “Make My Day” (check them out on www.myspace.com/sistersin),
actually there is not a bad track on the album.
Take some of the best sleaze metal bands from the eighties, add
some glam-rock elements and some rough female vocals, then you have a good idea
what Sister Sin is all about.
Yes! This is indeed a stereotypical band, in the same vain as
Lordi is it, non-the less it’s a great party album which will find its way to my
CD-player every now and then.
Recommended with beer!
