SHADRANE is
the Metal/Progressive band-project of Vivien Lalu (Lalu, Hubi Meisel)
A bit of are
European super group of such, featuring Joop Wolters (Dutch guitar
virtuoso) and the legendary brother’s rhythm section of Matt and
Gregg Bissonette (Joe Satriani, Steve Vai etc). From a vocal
perspective SHADRANE makes use of 3 different singers, according to
the tracks needs with vocals coming from Goran Edman (ex-Yngwie
Malmsteen, Brazen Abbot), Bjorn Jansson (Tears Of Anger, Ride The
Sky, Beyond Twilight) and Henrik Bath (Darkwater) along with some
backing vocals from Martin LeMar (Tomorrow's Eve). Göran was
formerly the only Shadrane vocalist, but left the project before its
completion!!
Musically,
this is brilliant Prog-Metal. I have listened to Temporal about a
dozen times now and every listen Temporal opens up more and let’s
you discover the layers of excellence within demanding you go back
and push the play button again. This is a concept album about a US
naval officer in WWII falling in love with a Japanese lady in middle
of the war, but, I won’t tell you anymore and spoil the story for
you. Lyrically the tracks don't follow the story's order; yet the
songs are inspired by the concept/story, but they're not telling
every event in chronological order like a movie would do.
I’m sorry!!!
I can’t compare this to any other bands….. Because it is just so
original, maybe Shadow Gallery / Dream Theater at a stretch. Stand
out tracks are Temporal, She Writes, Rainy very Queensryche style of
song, brilliant use of the piano and an outstanding vocal
performance, Madoka, Morpheus the heaviest song on the album & the
brilliant Gallery that finishes up the album. If you like very good,
polished Prog-Metal with great musicianship and outstanding vocals,
then go & buy this without even thinking about it. It is such a
shame that Temporal will probably not get the attention or publicity
it deserves.
Highly
Recommended
