Purgatory
Cultus Luciferi
Rating
Style: Brutal death metal
Release date: May 30th 2008

Purgatory has released several albums already. They hail from Germany and the music they play is rather old-school brutal death metal. It is a combination of Morbid Angel and old Slayer. Also bands like the Dutch Sinister, Hail of Bullets and Asphyx has to be mentioned. Combining these influences and you have a style that can be compared with the first records of Vader as well.

Vocalist Marko Dreier growls and grunts are rather similar to Vader's Piotr Wiwczarek, the tempo of the songs is very high and the drumming is very tight. The band has invited some guests to play along, among them are Wannes Gubbels (Asphyx) and Martin van Drünen (Asphyx, Hail of Bullets, Pestilence) and Marc Grewe (Morgoth). The band has a professional approach and with the excellent cover artwork the band leaves no doubt about their pretentions.

Fans of the brutal and heavy death stuff will do themselves a big favour if they buy this record. One of the better ones in this genre lately.
