After their release 'Error In Evolution' they went on tour with my fellow countrymen Gorefest. Straight after that tour they said farewell to Pekka Kiviaho (guitar). Mattias Bolander applies for the job and turns out to be the ideal guy. With producer Jonas Kjellgren they enter the Black Lounge studios in Avesta to can in their new one: 'Grim Tales'.
After the short intro "Misfit With a Machinegun" rumbles out of the speakers. The tight thrash with the trusted aggressive/growling vocals of ex-The Crown vocalist Johan Lindstrand sounds as old. The straight kind of grooving thrash combined with some melody is the trademark for The Army. In a whole, the songs are a little thrashsier and less death than on their earlier albums. The band can not be snatched on a bad song again, but somewhere inside me there is a little voice that makes me hesitate to give the band an outstanding mark.
This doubt exists because of the little progress compared to their latest album. It is as an illusionist doing the same act again and again. It stays a good trick, but the surprise has gone.
Nevertheless this is a good album and I give them the benefit of the doubt this time, but I expect some more change next time. One Man Army is not Motörhead!
