Now, this is moving! One-Way Mirror place themselves somewhere between the better parts of Linkin Park (yes, there are some of those), Soilwork and Mnemic with a hybrid of pop and modern thrash.

And this is no coincidence. The band consists of Mnemic’s singer Guillaume Bideau, guitarists David and Franck Potvin from Lyzanxia/Phase I, drummer Dirk Verbeuren from Soilwork and bassist Loic Colin from Scarve/Watcha.

Bringing in their shared experience from their original bands, drive and groove is high on the list of priorities for the five-piece. Along comes a suitable mix of clean vocals and screams on this varied and tight first effort from the super-group. More so than on his first try with Mnemic, Bideau gets an opportunity to show his range. The way he handles the near-ballad Empty Spaces and the Frankie Goes to Hollywood cover Relax is indeed excellent.

Each song lives in itself and is a powerful collection of riffs. Strong song-writing, excellent production from Daniel Bergstrand (who also did Meshuggah and In Flames), and ditto mix/mastering by Tue Madsen. What more can you ask for?

Do yourself a favour and check this one out!
