Kampfar's career can be seen as two-phased: the band's existence before Fra Underverdenen and the time after, with a gap of six years in-between.
Kampfar has always given me much to discover, amidst the layers of folk inspired riffs. Wereas the first part of their career lacked touring time, they have made up with the road, and seem to have gained a consequent new drive, as their Heimgang focuses on live-safe songs. It is a harsher black-metal with great vocals, more melancholic melodies that sometimes sound Western-Norwegian (Taake...).
To me, they have before sounded unfinished, sometimes forcing the natural; they still sabotage their credibility by including inverted, unreadable runes on the right-side stripe on their homepage; why do so?!
However, they now sound more confident than ever and I'm already looking forward to hearing their next achievement, wondering if this confidence is here to stay.
Something has definitely happened with Kampfar.
