I had the pleasure to review the German thrash metal band Hokum’s 2006 release “No Escape” a CD that still finds its way into my CD-player from time to time. Now I have the pleasure to review their latest offering entitled “Pi” and once again Hokum delivers the goods.
Hokum’s music is still pure metal packed with ever-changing rhythms and the sound and production is still raw yet crystal clear. They are heavy and thrashy but also quite progressive too and I never feel bored when “Pi” is rotating in my CD-player.
Well... even though that they style-wise somehow reminds me of English thrash bands of the late 80’s and the 90’s they still have their own sound. Every single track (8 of them) has something to offer and something that keeps my interest alive. The songs are, as written above packed with ever-changing rhythms and I discover new things with each spin.
It’s hard for me to name any standout tracks... because I love ‘em all but maybe “Live To Suffer” and the last track, the title-track are my favourites. Especially the title-track is awesome. More than 7 minutes of first class and very entertaining instrumental progressive thrash.
All in all a very enjoyable release so check this unsigned band out now.
