This month's
search for rather unknown superb metalbands I brought me to this
record from Heathendom. I wonder if I will find
a better one this year? This Greek band combines influences from
Mercyful Fate, King Diamond, Candlemass,
Solitude Aeturnus, Memory Garden and Memento
Mori.
After the intro the track 'Nescience'
leaves no questions asked, the song has an atmospheric and heavy
vibe in Mercyful Fate style. Dimitris
Koutsouvelis vocals are a mix of King Diamond and Messiah
Marcolin, the high vocals in combination with the horror-like
creepy screams give a sinister compassion.
Next song 'Burn' is a song that
could have been written by the King himself. Listen to this
track and you will be taken back to the times of King Diamond's
'Abigail'. The more slower doomy tracks with heavy riffs are in
the best Candlemass style. All songs have a
head and a tail, and are well arranged and there are no
fillers whatsoever.
