Release date: October 31st 2008

2008 is a real thrash revival year; many old thrash bands have released a new record and also a lot of youngsters have delivered thrash debut albums influenced by their heroes. What not many knows is that Guillotine's debut 'Under the Guillotine' saw the light back in 1997.

After that, both Nocturnal Rites members Fredrik Mannberg and Nils Eriksson put their band-project on ice. Now they return, together with the two Persuader members Daniel Sundbom (guitars) and Efraim Juntunen (drums), to unleash their second thrash attack. The artwork done by artist guru Ed Repka breathes a real eighties atmosphere, just like the music.

With all these thrash releases this year we are very spoiled, but also a lot more critical. After listening to the record once, I was not very impressed. Great riffs, aggressive eighties thrash-style singing, very tight rhythm section, fast songs and some melodic parts. Typically what we are served by a lot of those eighties thrash revival bands, but...

After listening to it in the car several times, songs such as "Insanity" and "Welcome to Dying" took me by the balls and I got more enthusiastic by the hour; the band convinced me. They don't bring something new, but the thing they do, is done right and tight. 'Blood Money' is not one of those redundant thrash albums, in fact it reveals itself as one of the better thrash releases in 2008.

Fans of Exodus, Testament, Forbidden, Destruction, Death Angel, Kreator and Slayer should take a listen to this band.
