Oh, fowl is my ignorance.

When people said to me: ‘You ought to check out this band, they’re cool’, I discarded their recommendations because I for some reason thought that it was just another nu-metal band.

I know now that they’re not.

Not at all.

Gojira is in some twisted way related to Slipknot in as much as they contain the same spite and heads down heaviness. Apart from that, the four Frenchmen have a style and sound entirely of their own.

On the whole unique in expression, impressive musicianship, drummer Mario Duplantier in particular manages to impress with his ultra-sharp yet very expressive style of drumming.

‘The Way of All Flesh’ is a groove machine that let’s the guitar riffs fly off in waves; it’s a barrage of captivating sound, a disc all fans of extreme metal should check out.

If I were to pull one negative rabbit out of the reviewer hat, it would be that the ‘secret track’ at the end of the CD is unnecessary. It was funny when Nirvana did, even when Fight did it, but face it, it is just a so Nineties thing to do. Make a real track instead and make it count instead of this shite.

But I’m going to dig out the other Gojira CD’s the next time I’m near a record store, that’s for sure!
