Fomento (which according
to my dictionary means ‘encouragement of discord and rebellion’) churn out a
brand of Metal upon which a Hardcore Thrash tag might be most apt. The band’s
music is dense with crushing riffs and Pantera-like drumming. The vocals are
abrasive and easily draw comparisons to Machine Head as well as the
aforementioned Pantera. Basically “Either Ceasars…..” comes across as a slab of
pummeling and uncompromising Metal.
While this style is not
one I’d normally get overexcited about, I admit that Fomento are more than
competent within their own niche of music. The band’s problem, in fact, does not
lie in what they do but in what they don’t do. Put more succinctly, a bit more
versatility and creativity in the songs would have been nice. On similar lines,
there’s a nagging over-reliance on the rhythm guitar and the vocalist seems to
be rather limited.
Happily the production of
“Either Ceasars…..” is nothing short of impressive and effectively distills a
lot of anger and power from the tracks. Unsurprisingly, responsibility for the
album’s production has been assigned to Colin Richardson, who’s produced for a
never-ending list of bands including Napalm Death, Carcass, Fear Factory and
yes, also Machine Head.
Fomento have here
released a solid and promising debut. If names such as Hatebreed, Sepultura or
Lamb Of God mean anything to you, the reader, then this is one you might want to
dig your teeth into.
