Flowing Tears
Thy Kingdom Gone
Rating
Style: Goth metal and then some
Release date: November 14th 2008

Things have taken an even more aggressive turn for one of my favourite female fronted bands, Flowing Tears from Germany.

Since the in my view absolutely fantastic ‘Serpentine’ (with former vocalist Stefanie) and the follow-up ‘Razorbliss’, Helen and the boys must have taken a Paradise Lost pill of some sort, because there is material on here, most notably Pain Has Taken Over and Rain of a Thousand Years, that could have been lifted right off ‘Draconian Times’.

Moonspell also rears its wonderfully dark head in there, that should be mentioned too.

This copycat move is something Flowing Tears doesn’t really earn points for (albeit it fine copy work), but what they do earn points for is the versatility of their material throughout the album and the yet again excellent production.

The title track of the album is an unusually heavy song for Flowing Tears with its guest appearance by Vorg from Samael, and it suits the band nicely.

Flowing Tears, not just Goth. Try it.
