We all know David Ellefson from Megadeth. After getting kicked out he collaborated on albums by Soulfly, Avian and The Alien Blakk and he started his own band F5. The term F5 is also known as a very strong tornado, or the refresh key on your computer. The band released their debut ‘A Drug for All Seasons’ in 2005 and now they are ready launches their second European release in the beginning of next year.

The first thing that strikes me is the more aggressive and heavier, kind of thrashier approach than it was the case on their debut. A lot of the songs can be described as modern metal songs with some thrash and power metal influences. With former Megadeth drummer Jimmy de Grosso, F5 has a very tight rhythm section. Together with Steve Conley, John Davis spreads his melodic and interesting solos throughout the songs. Ex-Sickspeed vocalist Dale Steel makes the pack complete and does a good job, but sometimes he still sounds a bit like David Draiman (Disturbed).

Songs like: "Cause for Concern", "My End" and "Control" draw comparisons withDisturbed, and not only because of the vocals. But to say that F5 is a Disturbed copy would give them too less credit. F5 has made a modern sounding record with lots of melody that is one of the better ones I heard lately. Fans of Disturbedand Sevendust should definitely check this one out!
