Ecliptica does some things right, some things are acceptable for a debut album and some things need to be fixed. When you choose to name you debut album 'Impetus' you better bring some power, speed and energy to the table, something this Austrian band doesn't accomplish on all songs.

The talent and the skills to write and play energetic and powerful songs are clearly present, but not all songs possess enough power and innovation to keep the listener interested. When you decide to use two vocalists, a male and a female, and play power metal with progressive and theatrical elements you better bring something extraordinary if you want to succeed, something they fail to do on most songs.

One song stands out and proves me wrong: "Black Swan" has it all! Outstanding musicianship, great structures, interesting build up and a climax. This song should in my humble opinion be the direction for the band in the future; the rest drifts too much into mediocrity and doesn't have the intensity and power to rise above the competition.
