The weird thing about this album is, that its four years old, and the band no longer exists. I don’t know what made Gordeon Music ship this to PoM at this time, but I’m actually glad that they did.

Defenestration lives up to their name (“The act of hurling someone through a window”!!). Its rough and hard hitting rock n’ metal from start till end, with various influences, primarily from the punk rock, garage rock and post punk genres, but with some quite modern growls – performed by the gorgeous Gen Tasker. Gen defines the best and the worst aspects of this record. If you don’t like her unique voice, the entire album is ruined. If you do like her, its brilliant. Everything stands or falls with her. The guitar sound is ugly in the good way, and the entire album reeks of gasoline and British brew. The sound quality is neither good nor bad. Its just there – which is the best way to procure that noisy garage feeling. Its supposed to sound like a very good band rehearsal, and it works!

The largest problem is the very short play time. Only six tracks. Too bad. On the other hand, these six songs gets the job done. They represent a large array of song types, from the “punkabilly”/heavy metal mix Moments of Truth, over the extremely headbanging-friendly Game Over, to the unrefined punk-like Queue to Nowhere – that also contains traces of fast paced doom. But… When Defenestration is able to do this with just six songs, what couldn’t they do with a full length album?

It’s a solid album, albeit far too short.
