The German melodic metal band DARK SKY was formed back in the 80’s but problems with their records company made the release of their first album impossible. They more of less called it a day but after a couple of line-up changes they returned to the scene at the end of the 90’s. Since then they have released 3 albums that I’m not familiar with and now they are more than ready to release their fourth entitled ‘Empty Faces’ upon us.
Sound and style wise we are talking hard rock / melodic metal in the same vein as bands such as; PINK CREAM 69 and PRETTY MAIDS. But are they any good? Well... they are certainly a very positive surprise in my book. Not exactly groundbreaking in any way... but who are these days? But fans of melodic metal should definitely check out this album, because it’s filled with catchy hooks and memorable choruses. After the CD is done I’m just in a great mood. Nothing wrong with that, right? However I must admit that I really dislike the Flashdance Soundtrack
cover “Maniac”... Damn... I’ve always hated this track. Well... skip this track and enjoy the rest.
With their fourth album DARK SKY have managed to create a very strong album. And peppered
with an excellent production done by Markus Teske (VANDEN PLAS) there’s certainly no way
around it if you’re a genre fan.
