Boredom comes in many shapes and the latest version is Swedish Cult of Luna’s ’Eternal Kingdom’.

Vocally, there are similarities with Neurosis, i.e. a forced screaming with no variation whatsoever. The music is a carpet of going nowhere with a few crescendos that don’t really hit as hard as they were probably intended to do.

The total downer is the 11+ minute long Ghost Trail. It is like walking through a desert.

By track ten (Following Betulas) there is finally light at the tunnel’s end. Something here sounds like a song. But, again, when we reach the six minute mark, the happiness rapidly turns to the dreaded boredom. After the eight minute mark you just want to skip.

Look, long songs are generally not bad. They turn bad when they become desert walks. And this is what happens here.

The production of the album is fine, though.

Next, please.
