What do we get if we mix Satyricon, Gorgoroth with old Sodom? Answer: BLACK FLAME from Italy formed in 1998. This is my first close encounter with this Death/Black Metal band and
after what I can understand from the press info, their music should appeal to fans of Incantation, Immolation, Sarcofage and Satyricon, but I will certainly add (early) Sodom to the list.
(Early) Sodom was the first band that came to mind when I gave this CD called “Imperium” its first spin and I was hooked right away. Their music is heavily rooted in the late 80’s and I just can’t help loving it. This is their 4th release (I think) and contains 8 tracks with a production that is just right for this kind of Death/Black Metal. There is just enough clarity to hear all the instruments but is raw and distorted enough to please fans of 80’s Death/Black and Thrash Metal. Then we have the vocals... what can I say... once again early Sodom comes to mind and the vocalist fit the music perfectly.
This album sure aren’t groundbreaking in any way, but BLACK FLAME have managed to release an album that certainly will find its way into my CD-player quite often.
Fans of the above mentioned bands should do themselves a huge favour and check this CD out. And then it’s up to you if you hate it or love it.
