Italian quartet Bioscrape are baiting potential fans with a five-track EP before the recording of their first full-length. I have to say that I won’t be holding my breath until the debut full-length is out.

Although this EP definitely has qualities in the shape of a heavy groove, the overall impression is that the song writing lacks and that Bioscrape has a real problem finding their own style.

Two of the tracks, Souls Eater and Discipline of Hate, are total Coal Chamber rip-offs, and as much as I liked Dez Fafara’s first combo, I’m not sure that cloning them is relevant in this day and age.

The track Empty Days sounds like Marilyn Manson on a bad day, Insanity breaks the style by sounding more thrashy and opener Level 7 – apparently the band anthem (‘Bioscrape is what we are’) - comes across rather messy.

Partly approved, but I miss coherence and good songs.
