Soundtracks are usually a bit tricky because they contain either a long blurb of purely instrumental music or a heap of very different music from diverse bands. This one is no exception from the latter.
If there is one red thread on Al Jourgensen’s compilation for the film Wicked Lake, it would be that most of the bands in some way have the Jourgensen touch or relation in as much as they are on the 13th Planet Records label, but other than that, the tunes are going in all sorts of directions.
Perhaps it makes sense when you watch the film, but for me, the songs on the soundtrack are far from the finest material from e.g. Ministry, Revolting Cocks and Prong, bands who’d otherwise form a strong alliance. I find myself concentrating on the two tracks by Ascension of The Watchers and the two Prong tunes and not so much the rest of the 15 tracks.
I suppose I ought to wait until the DVD comes out and see if this is better with the film – because as a CD, the overall impression is mostly one of blandness.
