Thought Chamber was founded by Michael Harris, who prior to this has released 6 solo albums, he has also been involved in Arch Rival and Surgeon, and he has worked together with Vitalij Kuprij and David T. Chastain. 'Angular Perceptions' is the debut album from these American newcomers.

"Thinking man's metal" or technical progressive metal is often the label put on this kind of music, and this is surely very intelligent, technical and progressive metal. Michael Harris has created 10 very complex and varied songs that leaves enough room for the other guys to shine as well. This is not just a guitar showcase, because vocalist Ted Leonard (Enchant) has a very emotional and melodic metal voice which gives the songs a calm melodic feel to them. This is guitar orientated progressive metal with lot's of great riffs and catchy hooks but Ted Leonard gives the songs a nice melodic contrast to the very technical music.

My personal highlights on this great album includes the dynamic "Sacred Treasure", the breathtaking instrumental "Mr. Qwinkle's Therapy" and Michael Harris' masterpiece "A Mind Beyond", which in one song shows the bands full potential.

If you are into technical progressive metal and count bands like Dream Theater, Enchant, Zero Hour, Twisted into Form and Mind's Eye among your favourites, then I suggest you buy this album as soon as it's released, because this is a highly recommendable debut album, which surely will give these guys a lot of well deserved attention.

Good one!
