Maybe the powder is a bit wet, because this album is really, really slow to ignite! But given the right amount of time things start to open for anyone, who has the patience and energy to discover Eyes of Eden.

Mastermind behind this new German gothic rock band is Waldemar Sorychta, who has assembled a very skilful band to guide us through the air-waves of this sonic journey. He has created an atmospheric sphere of mystical, dark and bittersweet gothic rock, which is brought to life by Waldermar's razor-sharp guitar playing and the excellent voice of vocalist Franziska Huth.

Sound wise everything is in perfect place, but I wouldn't expect anything less from a guy, who has produced such genre highlights as Tiamat's 'Wildhoney', Moonspell's 'Memorial' or any of the Lacuna Coil albums. Learning from and helping all of those bands out has surely paid off, and the album has a perfectly balanced and crystal clear production, which fits the dark atmosphere very well.

Not everything that shines is gold - and a few songs never really ignite and that leaves me a bit frustrated, because the cornerstones are in place for an great gothic rock experience. The rest has the substance to stand the distance, and makes this a rollercoaster ride with its ups and downs, mostly up - the 3 songs mentioned below belongs among the best this genre has offered this year.

Don't get me wrong, this is not a bad album, actually it wins a little bit by each spin, but the potential is just so much bigger than the outcome...

Recommended tracks: "Star", "Sleeping Minds" & "Not Human Kind"
