”Throne of the Depths” is the second release and first full-length album from German Black Metal band Drautran.

I must admit that I was ready to throw this album in the bin the first time I threw it on my hard-tried CD-player. Why? Well... the first track “Zum Haff hinaus” is okay... but not spectacular... a quiet piece of music that slowly builds up to track number 2; “Blót – Lohen der Opferung”. This track is fast and furious, alright... but nothing more than noise to me. But when we reach track number 3 “An den Pforten des Sturmes” something happens. Suddenly is not just pure noise anymore... no, no... There’s suddenly a lot to discover in their music. Even though we’re still talking fucking fast and fucking aggressive Black Metal here, you can very clearly hear beautiful Pagan Metal influenced melodies behind the fast guitar runs and the blast beats.

Track after track (9 of them) keeps your interest intact and every time I listen to this solid piece of music I discover new things in their music. The vocals are in my humble opinion sometimes a little annoying but I can live with that. It’s quite interesting that Extreme Metal... and we are really talking Extreme Metal here, can be so fast, aggressive and noisy but wonderful melodic at the same time.

The production is also great and I really think you should run down to your local CD-store and get this album if you’re a genre-fan on the release date... because Drautran really have the potential to reach for the top. To me ”Throne of the Depths” is a definite and worthy addition to my ever expanding CD-collection.
