Akoma is a female fronted Symphonic Metal band from Denmark formed in 2004 by vocalist Tanya Bell and guitarist Morten Harboe. In 2006 Akoma released their first EP entitled “Angels of Revenge” which was recorded, mixed and produced by the band themselves.

Well, back to 2007 and Akoma has just released a brand new promo-CD called “Lost Forest” recorded at Lydpotten, in Silkeborg, Denmark between October and November 2006. “Lost Forest” was mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen in his studios in Ribe, Denmark and believe me… the production is excellent.

Sadly I’m not familiar with their first EP “Angels of Revenge” so I can’t compare it to this new release, but at least I certainly know “Lost Forest” by now… and it’s a very nice surprise.

What we get here is Symphonic Metal/Symphonic Gothic Metal and bands like Within Temptation and Leaves' Eyes comes to mind when I’m listening to the 3 tracks there are to be found on “Lost Forest”.

There is an overall feeling of softness that goes throughout the 3 songs and a more than fantastic atmosphere. Beautiful landscapes go through my mind and you get lost in the songs so easily.

Tanya Bell’s beautiful voice is all over the 3 songs, but so are the catchy guitar riffs and it’s sad that this release only contains 3 songs, because when the CD is done, you just want more.

Definitely worth checking out if you’re into bands like Within Temptation and Leaves' Eyes or well-crafted Symphonic Metal in general.

It would be a big surprise to me, if this band would not be covered with offers of quite some labels soon because in my humble opinion, they can easily compete with the best of them out there.

Check‘em out!
