I sometimes wonder where American rock music would have been without Green Day. I mean, they definitely had their moments in the nineties, and, yes, a couple of good ones in the naughties as well, but come on – does that justify the slow yet constant trickle of American bands that have adopted…well, try to be Green Day? I suppose they’re all gagging for that unlikely radio hit that will pay their pension.

The Distance have decided to follow suit and give it a go at radio-friendly semi-punk rock. Although momentarily slightly more aggressive than their forbearers, the ten tracks on ‘The Rise The Fall and Everything In Between’ never get ugly in any way and the whole thing stands out somewhat toothless. There are a few nice choruses here and there, and the whole thing is probably fine for college radio across the nation.
