This two-CD package contains a short documentary that is primarily a tribute to David Coverdale’s stamina on the one disc and the live recording of a Hammersmith Apollo gig on the other.

The documentary is at best of worth for REAL fans of Whitesnake and for fans of guitar stuff, since the two guitarists, Doug Aldrich and Reb Beach , in a surprisingly modest fashion show off their gear.

The real treat is of course the live footage from Hammersmith. As you might expect from Coverdale and his cohorts, the 15 songs on the DVD are a walk down memory lane, but presented with a vigour and energy that you can only surrender to. For me, “Judgement Day” from my favourite Whitesnake album, “Slip of the Tongue” is the best track here, but also “Still of the Night”, “Fool for your Loving” and “Ain’t no Love in the Heart of the City” stand out among all the hits.

For a guy who’s three years older than my mom (!), Coverdale does a fantastic job and his voice stands the test of the tight backing band. Guitarists Beach and Doug Aldrich fill the shoes of Moody, Vandenberg and Vai with ease, and drum monster Tommy Aldrich is flawless (he lets go of the sticks during the drum solo and continues without them…auch!).

Coverdale even finds the time to compliment the tits (not my wording) of a woman on the front row in return for the flowers she throws at him. Very gallant indeed. Tip of the day: Don’t seek for one-liners to score with from this guy…
