Ladies and gentlemen… from the Netherlands… guitarist form Sun cage… Mr. Marcel Coenen! A few years ago one of my friends send my a link to Marcel Coenen’s website with the words; - Check this guitarist out! I did and I was more than impressed with his skills. He is giving shredders like Malmsteen and Vai a run for their money… believe me he is.

This DVD entitled “A live time journey” was recorded and filmed at January 28th 2006 in Weert, The Netherlands, at “De Bosuil”. The DVD is a live documentation, of the live performance to launch Marcel’s second solo album, “Colour Journey” (2006 Lion Music) in his native Netherlands. Marcel Coenen is playing the entire “Colour Journey” album live with almost every guest musicians who appear on the album.

Marcel Coenen is a very gifted guitarist, that’s for sure but a few of the tracks here on this DVD is a little boring in my opinion. Especially the slower tracks are not exactly my cup of tea, however most of the tracks are good… especially the heavier tracks are a feast for every one into shredders.

We get 14 tracks, some of them instrumental and some of them with vocals. Clean vocals, growls and female vocals are what we get. Sadly the vocals are drowning a bit in the music but I can live with that.

My favourite tracks are “Abstract Impact”, the heavy and brutal, “Traumatized to the Bone”, “Shoreline” and “New Race”. Especially “New Race” is great… a Speed Metal hammer of the highest calibre with more than stunning guitar work.

We even get two cover songs, a hidden bonus track (guitar solo), behind the scenes, footage from “Live in Thailand”, biography and DVD story… and a photo gallery.

A treat for fans of Marcel Coenen.
