Power of Metal.dk Interview

Interview with
Gianni Pontillo - The Order, August 2012

Distorted guitars dominate the charts, denim jackets and studded belts are the latest fashion and the discos play hard rock songs. Welcome in 1986, welcome to the world of THE ORDER. In the 80s the world was still well. No helmets needed on motorbikes, smoking allowed in any pub and phone cells on every corner. No internet, no mobile phones and therefore a lot of time to hang around with friends. And practically you played with them in a rock band – as a lot of guys did back then. THE ORDER want this attitude to life back, want to feel the air flow on the their bikes, want to smoke in the pub while playing pinball for a new highscore...

PoM.: Hi guys and congratz on the great album '1986'!

Gianni: Thanx for the nice words Man!

PoM.: Can you tell our readers shortly about The Orders history??

Gianni: Mr. Spring our guitar player started the band around 2004 with two ex-members of Gurd, Tscibu and Andrej! I heard about them via Internet and I liked the sound so much I wanted to sing those songs. I called, we met and just a few months later we found ourselves recording this stuff, crazy but very cool!

PoM: What has happend since 2009 and the superb 'Rockwolf' album??

Gianni: Well we had some problems with our record company that means, They went bankrupt. So of course 'Rockwolf' was hard to promote because of that and didn't get that attention it needed on the other hand this isn't the best record! So it took some time to write new heavy rocking shit and I think that was worth it. So we found a new record label and released '1986'...

PoM: Who is the main songwriter in the band?

Gianni: Accually, Mr Spring he writes the songs and I lay the words and the vocals, that's it....

PoM: How has other media reponded to the new album??

GianniFantastic I tell ya!! I think that people like the idea of being captured even for just 45 minutes and step back to the 80's, it's something thrilling I think and the cover layout says it all!

PoM: I really like the strong intro track 'The Power Of Love', can you tell me about that song?

Gianni: I think the power of love is a strong thing. I mean life is and should be about love and loving. In this song I sing about a relationship but actually it can refer to anything, anything we love to do!

PoM: Is there any track that means something special for you on the album?

Gianni: Yes there is a song called “Generation White Line” it’s about cocain of course and how people deal with it. You can find it everywhere and it’s very underestimated, people do crazy things for it. The songs is more a movie scene idea of me, my imagination how it would be celebrating a party, with girls, stuff and rock’n’roll as it was back in the 80’s….never touched it, sincerely!

PoM: How does the future look for the band? Any gigs or tours planned??

Gianni: Very difficult to tour due to many reasons. First everyone in the band exept from me has children then we work 9 to 5 and finally we don’t have the money for that bit we would love touring around and have some fun. But anyway let’s see what the future brings, we gonna record new songs for sure and let it flow.

PoM: How is the temperature on the Swiss rock scene? Are there any new rock bands alongside you??

Gianni: New Rock Groups are you kidding? Rock is a very hard business over here, there are a lot of cool bands but I think swiss rock music does not get the attetion it needs to become a big group or most of the kids nowadays don’t want to rock in a band or play an instrument! They rather step into disco’s and get drunk or do stupid things! I don’t know I was born at the right time but I was to young to be part of it

PoM: Which bands/persons have been musical inspiration for you?

Gianni: Uhh, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Tool, Extreme, Van Halen, Guns, Skid Row, Pink Floyd, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, let me Think……Dio, need more? hahah

PoM: Tell us something about the artwork - who made it and is it important for you with a cool art work?

Gianni: Jan Yrlund did the artwork and it fits perfectly, it might be a bit of a cliché but that’s actually what we needed. Thanx to Jan at this point.

PoM: Thank you for taking the time answering on my questions. Do you have any last words for our readers?

Gianni: Get out and Rock the Planet, be yourself, love and forgive you got one life….or maybe not!
