Hi, first off all I just want to congratulate you with your new album “Rockwolf”.
How has your new album been received by the media so far?
Thanks! Glad, you like it. Most of the reviews we got so far are from quite positive to damn good; Ok, it seems, that a lot of the People who reviewed the Album don’t like our Duran Duran Cover, Hahaha…. But that’s unsurprisingly for me, that we recorded the song was a joke, we had some extra time in the studio and we play it by ear to give it a try. To be honest, I didn’t expect, that the song will make it to the Album but the People at the Record Company liked it and so we decieded to leave it on the Album.
Who and what inspires you when you write a song? Walk us through the creation of a song?
Mostly, I first have an Idea for a Guitar riff. Then I start programming a simple beat on my Drum computer and try to find other riffs that matches to the originally riff. As soon I have three or four parts together, I start to arrange them. After that, I record the whole song with two Guitar Tracks, Bass and Drum computer at my Home studio. As soon I’m finished, I send an mp3 to the boys and they tell me if the like it or not. If they like it, Gianni tries to find some Vocal lines and we rehearse the song together in the rehearsal room. This is the point where we decide, if the song is good enough or not.
How long do you need to practice to feel comfortable with your songs before you record them?
Well, to be honest, we don’t rehearse a lot before we enter the studio; since we all life in different cities that are partially far apart we try to practise as few as possible but as much as is necessary. Fortunately Tschibu, Andrej and I play together since almost 20 Years and we are well attuned to each other. But of course, each one of us practised a lot at home before we recorded the album.
Any songs scratched during the writing/recording process?
A few of them; I wrote and recorded about 15 Songs for the new album at my home studio; about one out of three didn’t made it on the album. Some where to heavy, others to soft or they simply didn’t fit to the rest of the Songs, which always is very important for me.
“Reorder the Disorder” could very well be my favourite track... are there any songs that
are special to you?
They are all special to me and I like them all. Of course, I like some Songs more then others - ”Sex, Drugs & Rock’n’Roll” and “Love Ain’t A Game To Play” are my faves on this record. “Reorder The Disorder” seems to be the favourite track of a lot of people which is surprising to me because this song was a bit controversial within the Band: Especially our Bass Player didn’t like it first. He was of the opinion that the song might be to heavy for the Album. Personally, I think that it was important to have it on the album, not least because there is enough melodious and cheesy stuff on it, hahahaha…
Where do you see the main difference between your earlier albums and your new album?
I think, the first album was a quest. As you might know, Tschibu, Andrej and I played in a Thrash-Metal Band (GURD) before we founded The Order. The first Album contains a lot of very Heavy Riffs and Beats and is quite aggressive. We needed this album to figure out, what fits best for us. The second Album, Metal Casino, was a lot more compact and focussed. We became aware of the fact that we want to go in a more Classic Hard rock direction not least because Gianni’s Vocals fits a lot better to Hard rock than to Metal. Rockwolf just is the logic progression. We set great value to strong melodies and catchy Choruses. I think Rockwolf is the most mellow THE ORDER Album until now.
What are the plans for the band right now? Next album, tour, etc.?
Until the End of the Year we will play some Shows here in Switzerland to promote the Album. After that we will take a little break, because Bass player Andrej and Drummer Tschibu will both become a Father in January and February. As from next years March we will hit the Road again and continue playing some Shows in Switzerland and Germany.
If I were to peak into your CD player right now, what might I find playing?
Endgame form Megadeth, Master Of Puppets form Metallica, F.U.C.K. from Van Halen, a fairy tales CD my daughter is always listening to and of course our new Album.
What kind of metal/music don't you like at all?
I listen to almost every kind of music. Metal, Rock, Pop, Classic and sometimes even to Jazz. In Metal I especially like so called Hair-Metal like Ratt, Mötley Crüe or Van Halen but I also often listen to Thrash Metal like early Metallica, Slayer or newer Stuff like Strapping Young Lad or Zimmers Hole. I even like Black Metal, especially because a lot of those Bands manage it to create a very special atmosphere, even if they are not the best players. I like that. Ok, I don’t really like what is called Powermetal or True Metal today but in general I am very open-minded to all styles of music and metal.
I thank you very much for participating in this interview. Any final words you would like to round off with?
