Interview with The Bereaved (June 22nd 2009)

Hi, first off all I just want to congratulate you with ‘Daylight Deception’. Are you satisfied with it?

Hi, thank you. We are satisfied with it, even though it was recorded three years ago. Travis did a remarkable job on it and changed the whole feeling about it...to the better of course.

How did you get the name The Bereaved?

We went through a lot of changes some years ago and we felt that we wanted to change our name and get a new start. “The Bereaved” was Jonnys (Vocalist who left the band 2006) idea, it is also a dedication to all we have lost through the years.

Who has produced and mixed the album?

We arranged the whole album ourselves and Master Dan Swanö mixed it and mastered it in Unisound.

How would you describe your music to any of our readers who may not have heard of you before?

I think anyone would say it is typical Swedish melodic death metal. But I would also add that the range in our soft and really aggressive parts are wider then others.

Do you feel that your sound will evolve in some different direction, in the future, or you will still follow the same path?

I think it will evolve, but also follow the same path. You never know how the sound changes from album to album. Let’s wait and see what happens.

Who has done the cover artwork?

Ivan S. Bragin at Deadhouse did it, he’s really good. Great ideas and really easy to work with. He deserves more attention.

How do you feel about the co-operation with your label, Vic Records?

Vic is a caring and dedicated label. If you feel that your label really care about you even if haven’t made yourself a name yet, you have to be satisfied with them. That is something we have been struggling with in the past.

What tasks presently lie ahead for you?

We’ll try to put some tours together and promote the band and album, nothing is booked yet though.

Let's speculate - you have been granted a free slot on a tour of your own choice - who would be your ideal touring partners?

I would choose Iron Maiden or Metallica. The guys in Iron Maiden seem to be really good guys and I think that it would be a lot of fun hanging out with them on tour...

What albums or bands do you believe have had the greatest impact on the history of metal?

That’s not easy to say, but I guess I have to say Metallica, Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. Production wise I think Metallica's “The Black Album” is outstanding; it’s clean, aggressive, heavy and flawless.

Looking ahead, where do you want to be five years from now?

On the road and play our music all over the world.

I thank you very much for participating in this interview and sharing this information and your thoughts with us - these last lines are entirely for you. Any final words you would like to round off with - a tip, a recommendation or a thought for the future?

Thank you. Be sure to check out our MySpace and buy our new album. By doing that you can help us getting out on the road. Thank you for all the support.
