Interview with Kode (February 12th, 2006)

Peter - First of all... tell us a little about yourself!
Kode - Now you say; “Tell us a little bit about yourself”. But hey, 5 totally different metal heads creates a bit more than a little! LOL…. But okay. KODE as we feel ourselves is a vast of inspiration, dynamics and a great love for Heavy Metal. And that is really what KODE is all about; giving our listeners everything we have in us, every time we play. Because we are five very different opinions in the matters of what makes great heavy – we mix the very best of each member’s ideas into a pill of progressive energy into our music.

Peter - How did you get your name KODE?
Kode - Ha ha ha, that process was not easy. Again – many ideas was thrown into the air, but no agreement was made. In the end we collected all the letters from all the ideas, send Christian and Michael out the door for 20 minutes – and let them decide. “Michael and I just played along, and suddenly we looked at each other – and though; and now we have to break the CODE?” And that was it…. And just for the fun of it, we spelled it the Danish way.

Peter - In what words would you describe the music and moods of KODE for someone that has not heard you yet?
Kode - As something you NEED to hear. We are five guys with a lot of life experience, and I’m sure the listener will hear and feel that, listening to both the lyrics and the music. We have the courage to go our own way, and that gives the audience a unique metal blast.

Peter - How is the writing process in the band?
Kode - We have no specific formula to follow writing our music. That is an organic process. Wearily we are all inspired at the same time, so often one of us brings something new into the KODE kitchen, and then all chefs’ starts cooking. In the end Christian writes the lyrics and gets yelled at until he sings it right. ;-)

Peter - Do you feel that your sound will evolve in some different direction, in the future, or you will still follow the same path?
Kode - Our music comes right from the heart, and the heart is evolving through out our entire life. So of cause the music of KODE will evolve with the members of the band.

Peter - Which bands from then and from nowadays have their influence on KODE?
Kode - No one have direct influence on our music, but then again a lot of bands have indirectly inspired the musical process. To mention; Mnemic, Ill Nino, Dream Theater, Metallica, Linkin Park, Korn, Lost Prophets, Limp Bizkit……

Peter - What are your favourite old and recent bands?
Kode - To make a long story short – we say no one….. ;-)

Peter - Let's speculate - you have been granted a free slot on a tour of your own choice - who would be your ideal touring partners?
Kode - Any ideas????

Peter - Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?
Kode - Well, many of our lyrics are evolving around the topic; what is negative for you today, you can turn into something positive for yourself tomorrow. Life is overall not that complicated. No matter how much your emotions tell you to do something right now, they might tell you to something entirely different in an hour from now. Live your life in a way were you every day evaluate; what can I do better tomorrow – and then do it.

Peter - What are you doing besides KODE, job wise as well as hobbies?
Kode - Well the members of KODE have this energy of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder in there personality witch ends up in an unmoral time schedule. One works in sales, one as a constructor, and another in the mail business and the last two as a self employed consultant and as an electrician. Hobbies hold all from traditional Taekwon-Do, MORE music, European football and computers.

Peter - If someone told you tomorrow that you can't be involved in music anymore, what do you see yourself doing in 5 years from now?
Kode - Dying slowly!

Peter - The internet is a very important source for many metal fans – how do you use the internet and how important is it for you and other bands?
Kode - The web has many upsides and downsides. But as we se the world the web is a phenomenal opportunity for bands and fans to communicate and get relevant information. On our one website www.kodemusic.com we share our music with everyone interested, and the web has given every band in the world the gift of being part of the biggest commercial success in the history of mankind. Can you ask for more?

Peter - And how do you feel about the metal scene in general at the moment?
Kode - After the end of the eighties metal had serious dive in the public opinion. Fortunately it seams like the talent of the new metal generation has opened the eyes of a new open-minded metal-fan generation, and giving the “old” metal fan the inspiration to turn back, and start head banging again. That is the greatest news for the metal scene in many years.

Peter - I thank you very much for participating in this interview and sharing this information and your thoughts with us - these last lines are entirely for you. Any final words you would like to round off with?
Kode - We thank you Peter, for your interest in KODE and giving the metal world and KODE the opportunity of getting to know one another. To all you great metal lovers out there – we hope to meet with you “in real live”, and sharing energy playing for you. Check our website at www.kodemusic.com, listen to our music, and share you opinion with us in our guestbook. Stay heavy!!! KODE
