On the rack: Rob Purnell from Trigger the Bloodshed

Tell us a little about your latest release, 'The Great Depression'. Are you satisfied with it? Has it been received well?

We are very proud of this record! When it came round to writing this, our second record, we knew we really had to up our game after how well the first album was received, and the opportunities it opened up to us, so a lot ofthought went into the record.
The approach we took to this record was a big focus on the song writing. OnPurgation the focus was strongly on the speed, brutality and heaviness that we could achieve and therefore thesong writing did suffer to this at points, so this time round we wanted to incorporate all the heaviness, speed andbrutality of purgation but with clear, focused songs with solid structuring and more hooks, and I really think weachieved this!

How would you describe your sound to someone, who has no idea about Trigger the Bloodshed yet?

Well I think there are clues in our name, you hear the name Trigger The Bloodshed and you’re immediately
thinking that this will be extreme music, and that's exactly what it is! Heavy, heavy Death Metal!

What are your plans, now that 'The Great Depression' is out?

Well we are currently out on The Great Depression UK tour, ad after that we play Download Festival, then head off to play
The Metal Hammer Golden Gods, where we are also nominated for best new band, and after that we will be hitting Europe touring
with some real cool bands which we can't wait to announce, and hopefully closing the year by touring America!

Where do you get your inspiration from and how do you usually write a song?

Well I have written all the music for the past two albums and personally my inspiration is simply extreme music!
I love all kinds of extreme music and the energy and passion it has and my motivation isto be a part of this scene
in a forward thinking approach to Death Metal! Lyrically for the new albumJonny our singer took inspiration from the
very shitty situation the worlds found itself in at the moment.Topics on the album include everything from the economy
and world leaders through to how we are estroying planet earth and the corruption of the young through the modern media.

The world would have been a wretched place without these five albums:

Cannibal Corpse - The Wretched Spawn
Dying Fetus - Destroy The Opposition
Regurgitate - Sickening Bliss
Rotten Sound - Cycles
Clann Zu - Black Coats And Bandages
