On the rack: Coste Apetrea

Wretched sinner, tell us about your latest deeds of evil and spite, 'Surprisingly Heavy'!

Coste Apetrea – Well, the whole album has been inspired by my feeling of reexperiencing

some of my favourite music from the 60´s and the 70´s and in order to capture this sound wich is of course basically a guitar-sound I had the luck to stumble over a couple of crazy amp-geniuses….after reading a forum online where a few guys were raging about there amazing new amps……it turned out the amps were made in Sweden “Elmwood” after a meeting with those guys I bought two heads and finally after only 35 years in the business…. I found a decent guitar sound….had to make some nice recordings with this….

You fiend! You intend to tour the world with this devilish noise, don't you?!

Coste Apetrea – I'm putting together a new band right now…..I did a gig with former bass-player of Meshuggah Gustav Hielm he really rocks and we decided to continue in some form of collaboration..

I reckon you have many ungodly stories from your sinful tours. You might as well give us the worst story since we're preparing to fry you anyway!

Coste Apetrea – The worst has to be the one from around 1980 when our manager at that time came down to our gig at the club Montmartre in Copenhagen (your town ?) (No - Editor) with the whole Black Sabbath, at his time with Ian Gillan as lead vocalist.

After the gig we all sat down together and had a few beers our lead singer wasn´t into metal and new the bands just by name, so after a while he leaned over towards Gillan and asked him “ are you also in the band ?” …..Gillan looked at him and said without a sign in his face “no, I´m just a roady……”

Oh, you are indeed a wretch! If we had not caught you, what would you and your cohordes have done now? Recorded even more of your fiendish rattling?

Coste Apetrea – Yep, working on a heavier darker and more weird sounding record……death metal meets cha cha trough country & eastern with a touch of German umpa-umpa……?!

Damnations! You are beyond redemption. Name the five musical pieces that you want to bring with you when we send you to hell!

Coste Apetrea –  Meshuggah's latest work, anything with Gidon Kremer, anything by Hendrix, the coming album by “Ruins” “Tatsuya Yoshida's one-man-band, “The Final Peace” by Jeff Beck
